Artificial flowers

You can use the flowers to make really interesting furnishing accessories, such as baskets, centerpieces and candelabras, but also to decorate furniture and various objects, in addition of course for the classic art of weaving them together to form bouquets and splendid floral compositions of various types and coloration. Keep in mind that they are easily combined with other very suggestive decorations, such as stones, berries and branches, for always new and original results. In principle, every artificial flower should be treated in the same way before any type of use. In fact, you need to spray them with the special hardener spray to make them shiny and resistant to dust and wear over time. The can should be kept about twenty centimeters to avoid damaging the flower. This make-up is especially indicated for rigid floral elements with long stems, in case you want to put them in ornamental vases. Some types of sprays require that the flower is then baked at 130 degrees above a thin sheet of liquid wax. After ten minutes, it will be ready. You will have to complete the heat treatment by separating the petals that may have stuck together helping you with a small plastic gardener's scalpel and proceeding very gently. However, the effect is the same. Below we will see some interesting use of artificial flowers.

How to make a floral arrangement with artificial flowers

One of the best features of this type of flowers is that with extreme ease they can give light to every type of environment, even the most bare. To start, you have to choose the right vase, preferably with a bright color, trying to match it perfectly to the theme of the composition and the shape of the flowers in question. With double-sided tape, make a sort of grid on the bottom of the vase, so as to have a structure in which to position the stems. When you get ready for the choice of artificial flowers, you vary a lot in shape and color, so as to obtain an original composition with great decorative effect. To adjust the height of the stems use a special gardening cutter, so as not to damage them irreparably. Be careful to give the right proportion to the whole, so place the tallest and most voluminous elements in the center, and proceed to insert smaller sized flowers and leaves around them. If you want an extra touch, add berries, twigs and small decorations. Now make the leaves and the petals shiny by spraying them with the special sprays that you will find at sales points dedicated to gardening or DIY.

Some ideas

Artificial flowers are a high-impact decoration for the exterior of your home and will be able to completely renew it in the look. A particular idea could be the following: take a bowl and pour water into it and a water-soluble color that you like. In it you will go to dip the artificial flowers to give them the desired shade. Then place them on newspaper and let them dry completely. You will need about one night. After this time, spray each element with the waterproofing spray. Put each flower in a piece of copper and shape the composition according to your personal taste. A suggestion could be to create a wreath to hang on the door, in pure American style, or to embellish columns and external railings. You can also make a bouquet for brides and bridesmaids with artificial Crepe flowers, a particularly resistant and flexible material, designed ad hoc to adapt to the palette of typical wedding colors. I recommend you combine roses with carnations if you want to amaze, while combining various colors of peonies if the desired effect wants to be classic and more traditional. Also make the dining room table more lively with a centerpiece of fake flowers. The most suitable tones for this room are ivory and light pink, as they give light and airiness to the room. Have fun designing your new decorative element with models of different sizes, so as to create a pleasant depth effect.

Maintenance and cleaning

Like any object, even artificial flowers need to be cared for and treated with due precautions to prevent them from being ruined and to guarantee them a long resistance over time, in optimal conditions. To clean them, you must take a bowl and pour some water into it with a teaspoon of neutral soap. Mix well to obtain a fairly frothy mixture. Immerse in the solution a cloth of natural fabric or a soft sponge and go to very gently remove all traces of dirt, oil or grease that have settled on the surface of the flowers. It will not be a good idea to wash the stems or sticks with which they are inserted, for example, in the vases, because moisture could penetrate inside them, causing them to rot. You will only be dusting them. Remove the damaged and worn parts with a wire cutter, as if you were doing a real pruning. If successful, remove all the composition from the support and clean its interior. It is also possible to use some methods to remove surface dust, for example using the classic duvet. Alternatively, a hair dryer with low power will work, but only on flowers of resistant material. The ideal, however, would be to rub them lightly with a deerskin cloth, because it is scratch-proof; in fact it is also used to clean the bodywork of cars. When the cloth is dirty, wash it under cold running water (never use the warm one). A washing technique that comes directly from the grandmothers' advice is to refresh artificial flowers with white vinegar. Transfer a small amount into a spray dispenser and stretch it with fresh water, then spray the flowers at a distance of about ten centimeters. If your flowers are extremely delicate, dry them. Take a pillowcase and put the cornmeal inside. Insert the flowers in this and closing the opening, shake for a few seconds, leaving it to rest in a dry place overnight. The flour will absorb the stains and remove the traces of dirt in an absolutely natural way, with amazing results. Remember, in any case, before cleaning your flowers by testing them on a small leaf or in a fairly hidden section of the composition. In case of damage or discoloration of the material, you will have safeguarded most of the various elements. In this case you will have to rely on a specialized shop and buy a cleaning fluid designed specifically for artificial plants and flowers, even if it is not cheap. It is however very practical: just sprinkle it on the affected part and after a few seconds rub it with a soft cloth, better if fluffy.
